What I mean by surrender

You might have heard during yoga practice your teacher referring to letting go and surrendering.  Although in my experience that reference is mostly to help students let go of any unnecessary tension in the body, lately I have been reflecting on what we mean by ‘surrender’ when it comes to life.

Quite a philosophical thought, don’t you think? But one that I think is terribly appropriate with all is going on at the moment. One of the definitions I could find online says that surrender is the act of stopping trying to prevent or control a situation or an emotion, and that really resonated with me.

I don’t know about you, but for me personally there is so much I don’t know at the moment and so much I can’t control or influence that I have decided there is no point in stressing out and/or worrying about it.

Please don’t read this as a selfish act or think that I do not care. I will continue to play my part as much as I can and make the decisions I’m making with my heart and my mind fully in it – I care a great deal about my family, my friends, my community, the organisation I work for, my colleagues, all the amazing people who are putting their lives at risk to save others at the moment… and my way to show I care is to try and keep safe, compassionate and sane.

So yes, I choose to surrender and believe that things will work out somehow, some day.

Do take good care and stay safe my friends.
