Our approach to life

The words below are from a podcast by Andy Puddicombe. I decided to share them as – although he was talking about how to approach meditation – I think this is true in life and I find them beautiful.

What we do in life is not so important. It’s the way that we choose to live, the way that we approach what we do and the way we connect with those around us that is most important.

When we turn up for meditation each day, it’s all about the approach. Of course we need to know the technique, we need to know how to apply the technique but actually, it is about the approach, it is always about the approach. If we are approaching our meditation in a healthy way, that is with a sense of openness, kindness, gentleness, a sense of letting go, a sense of ease, that’s exactly the same kind of approach we want to bring to every day life, no matter what we do.

So rather than focusing on the differences in our lives, looking at the similarity of approach, how we can approach whatever we do, however we choose to live, in a way that promotes calm and clarity not only in our own mind but also in our immediate environment around us’.
