Food and yoga: Two of my favourite things

A year ago today I wrote this post about yoga and food, two of my favourite things…

I think that eating is a highly personal activity – like yoga. You often have to adapt your food choices to the way these foods make you feel and sometimes you have to learn to say no to a specific food if your body doesn’t agree with it.

Developing a mindful eating practice can provide a ground that truly supports and nurtures your time on the mat and viceversa.

Not only being mindful when you eat allows you to enjoy your food more, it also makes you feel full earlier, which in turns means that you’ll end up eating less and making better choices.

Healthy eating habits are formed by intention and – you guessed it – repetition. When you are on your mat you learn to be present and listen to your body and, with time and practice, you get better at it, becoming more aware of the signals the body is sending you.

Next time you have a meal try to really tune in to the body, in the same way you do when you are on your mat and see how it goes. Enjoy! 🙂
