Staying centred
Often when we are going through a period of change it can be really hard to keep ourselves focused and centred. I have personally found through the years that having an organised schedule (call it routine if you like) in and outside of work helps me enormously. Don’t get me wrong, I do like a level of improvisation and enjoy being able to keep my options open, however to keep my anxiety at bay – especially on work related matters – I do find that having things planned in advance helps me enormously.
Call me crazy but I go as far as diarising my thinking time – time when I need to focus and think about stuff – be it work related or (sometimes) otherwise. I often say that if things don’t end up in my diary they won’t happen, so I use it as a resource to ensure I am aware of what I am planning to do or I have made a commitment (even if just to myself) to do.
I am also quite strict in terms of work vs life (or everything else, as I prefer to call it) balance: I am very dedicated to my work but I know that work is not everything in life and for me to be able to do my job well, I need to be able to switch off and do other things too. For this reason I tend to be strict in terms of work days and hours, especially now that many of us are still working from home and things can get blurry.
I find that all of the above works for me and allows me to live a less stressful more centred life.
What do you do to keep centred?
