Dealing with change

How do you feel about change?

I’m generally excited when changes come about, and I try to see them – good or bad– as an opportunity to grow, do something different and learn something new.

Change almost always equals a level of uncertainty, so I won’t deny that some anxiety and fear can arise and with that, unsettling emotions. I think this is a perfectly normal reaction – after all we are creatures of habit and introducing changes (or being forced to accept them) is going to bring about a level of disruption to our routine.

Everyone deals with it slightly differently. Personally, I have found great benefit in accepting what’s developing. Taking things as they come – one step at a time – has always been very useful to me. Letting go of the need to fix things and sort them out before I even know what’s coming has been the best advice I was given, once upon a time. Of course those of us who have a tendency to control things do struggle with this, probably more so than those who are naturally able to let things unfold and keep their options open all the time.

So today I have been reflecting on change because two of my best friends (and neighbours) are moving on to pastures new, relocating to a new country. A big change for them and although not quite the same – one for me too. I am a bit sad and will miss them deeply, but I am excited for their new life and – no matter how big or small – for the changes that this will bring to our lives.

Love you guys!
